BTM's Headroom Kitchen Studios v6

HEADROOM VERSION NUMBER SIX
After nine years in Allston, MA, my studio has morphed again into another location in Boston. Three were in Boston's South End (1984-2001) and two in Allston (2001-2010) and now the newest v6 is one town over in Brighton, MA. This version is a hybrid of the best of all the gear I was really using packed into a KITCHEN nook. My full Pro Tool TDM audio and Final Cut Pro video rigs are wired in. Now I can focus on editing/mixing the dozens of studio sessions and live shows that I have already shot/recorded that have never been released. (more on that coming up)

The rest of my collections (circuit bent toys, outsider instruments, junk percussion, electronics, synths, guitars, records, etc) are stashed in storage. My LIVE BTM Orgy Of Noise rig is right at the front ready to MAYBE go on the road in late 2011/2012. Plus, I have access to a higher speed internet connection and will be doing more BTM Television Webcasts where you can look over my shoulder as I edit/mix upcoming DVDs & CDs. Plus, cooking recipe segments and special appearances by Bent Tron Bot & Sheri & ZiggyCat & much more on the upcoming 2011 BTM TV season.

NO PLANS for ANY LIVE BTM GIGS yet, but look for pre-season BTM TV Webcasts soon-ish. Eventually I plan to do regular BTM TV webcasts. I will mainly focus on my own DVD video projects and a few choice remix or soundtrack projects. Plus some MIGHT do some freelance engineer/production for OTHER bands at OTHER studios.

In the meantime... tons of my videos are already online at: htt://YouTube.com/btmtv & a pile of my albums/cds for free download at: htt://MP3ORGY.com

Tour of Headroom Recording Studios (2003)

CLICK to SEE SAME VIDEO LARGER on YOUTUBE

Home to BTM's bands OBE, KINGS OF FEEDBACK, DRUM ARMY, KING OF SLACK, SLACKBANGERS, ORGY OF NOISE and tons of OTHER bands produced by Bill T Miller. BTM's semi-private project studio has opened it's doors at various locations to record and/or remix many bands, including: Melt-Banana, Axemunkee, Grief, Disrupt, Dropdead, Noosebomb, Glenn Jones, One Of Us, Roger Miller's no man, Xyxyl, The Slaves, Prime Movers, Bentmen, Powerman 5000, Saturnalia, Plainfield, All The Queen's Men, Rich Gilbert, Reeves Gabrels, Malcolm Travis, Reg Bloor, Deftly-D, Ajda the Turkish Queen,Reverend Ivan Stang - Subgenius, Wisteriax, Twink, and many more.

Headroom in the 80s-90s was based around an analog Fostex E-16 tape recorder & a Ramsa 20 input console. By the late 90s switched over to a Pro Tools rig on a Macintosh computer. Although BTM continued to freelance out of many other larger studios with 24 track 2-inch or 16 track - 1-inch machines and huge consoles and tracking rooms stocked with various microphones. Headroom was always designed to be BTM's playground and the gear is a hodge podge of McGuvered together bits to create an unique real. Co-producer TIPPI CAT is even spotted in the Headroom Tour video. This video was shot in 2003, so the set-up has morphed a bit. Still centered around Digidesign Pro Tools for audio and Final Cut Pro for video and stuffed with piles of toys and hand built outsider BTM instruments. This version of the studio is still located in the same space in ALLSTON ROCK CITY - Boston - usa.

See more of BTM's Circuit Bent Toy and Gizmo Collection at: http://circuitbending.com

The soundtrack for this video is BTM solo in his band ORGY OF NOISE with part of the song SNAP CRACKLE & POP from the PLAGUE CD. It features a circuit bent Tablebeast SK-1 keyboard and a circuit bent Uliasz Guttar toy guitar and a Waterhed bent Talking Teacher.

FOURTEEN Orgy Of Noise Live in Concert Shows.... (updated 2013)

WHAT'S NOISE TO SOME PEOPLE IS MUSIC TO OTHERS.

Orgy Of Noise = Bill T Miller LIVE SHOWS 2004-2013

* Bent2004 NYC Festival (2004) [CD]
* Herrell's Ice Cream (2004) [CD]
* Cross-Pollenization III Festival (2008) [DVD]
* International Noise Conference (2008) [DVD]
* Lizard Lounge (2008) [unreleased]
* Strange Maine (2008) [unreleased]
* TT the Bear's Club (2008) [unreleased]
* Bandwidth TV at CCTV (2008) [DVD]
* Noise Night at WB (2009) [unreleased]
* Bunny Brunch at 3wavejump (2009) [unreleased]
* Cyberarts The Maker Revolution (2009) [unreleased]
* Multimedia Circus @ The Armory (2009)[unreleased]
* Aviary Gallery (2013) Solo BTM OON & with Peter Edwards.[unreleased]
* Odditorium Asheville (2013) Solo BTM OON with encore guests Human Energy Field [video online]

Officially those are the ONLY live OON shows that ever happened.... plus of course there were a few guest bits and jams and of course tons of studio sessions & online webcasts.

All the [unreleased] shows are piled high as mountains of media (video, photos, audio) and are stashed away in the BTM Headroom Vault Hard Drive, they will eventually will be edited into video clips and DVD releases. For the most part there are several preview photos and a video clip online of all the [unreleased] shows. The OON TTs Halloween Show is currently being edited into a deluxe DVD from a multi-cam video shoot with pro multitrack live audio and will include the full set and bonus footage of several pre-gig studio session jams and a slide show with tons more photos.

From it's earliest incarnation under Wall Of Noise moniker in 1989 (and the early BTM experimental recordings starting in 1976 in CA) - it was always a studio freak-out only, until the debut LIVE BTM OON gig at BENT in 2004. Now except for live jam bits, either solo or as a guest, I gonna TRY to stay in the studio zone for a bit, no mega band OON shows planned for 2009.... but who knows, never say never. The even dozen of shows for this era seems to precise, the words BAKER'S DOZEN keep running through my head and the Doobie Brothers tune TAKIN' TO THE STREETS is haunting me. Who knows what is next.

Always down for fun jams, ME and my Bent Tron Bot are planning on some jiffy jamming out at NOISE NIGHT at the new Willoughby and Baltic space in Somerville on May 28th, 2009. See you there.

As of NOW, NO NEW ORGY OF NOISE = BILL T MILLER Shows are in the works for 2009. The plans for NOW include tons of video editing and some Live from Headroom BTM Television Broadcasts Online later this summer/fall. I am ONE DIY PERSON doing the post production worth of staff of several departments with no budget, so it may be a bit. Stay tuned.

THANKS to ALL who were part of the shows as band and crew and audience and out-of-town well wishers... and all the studio-only OON members... YOU MEAN EVERYTHING TO ME. MUCHO APPRECIATED. Click to see full OON band members list. The video/photo/tech crew lists are with each of the individual show pages and video credits.

SHERI HAUSEY as still photographer / tour manager and more (digital video, roadie, driver, caterer, writer, etc) was the only one who was part of ALL FOURTEEN OON SHOWS. JON STRYMISH (Black and White Film Photographer and HERO) was shooting photos at seven of the twelve OON shows, including the first at BENT2004 in NYC. KEVIN PELRINE shot video of several shows and even jammed out a bit. Defly-D, Jonathan LaMaster, Michael Knoblach, Larry Dersch, Ed "Moose" Savage played on and/or showed up to witness quite a few shows as well. Many others were part of a lot of them in one way or another. THANX.

In the last twenty five years (in Boston) as recording engineer/producer, live sound tech, photographer, videographer, writer, musician, cheerleader, guru and kook i have done ALL I could to support OTHERS and "the scene" as a friend and a fan, so the PEOPLE that gave back to me by showing up to my gigs (including KINGS OF FEEDBACK and KING OF SLACK as well as recent ORGY OF NOISE shows) really stand out to me. THANK YOU.

Bon Voyage Kevin & Bone Rattle Returns - Allston Noise City

Except for a few recent excursions (FLEA AT MIT, NIN, PJ HARVEY & NOISE NIGHT) - I have been holed up in my Headroom Studios cave in Allston since the last ORGY OF NOISE live Multimedia Circus gig in May, but had to venture out for a doube header of thrills right here in lovely Allston (Boston) this Sunday (August 2, 2009.)

KEVIN PELRINE SHOOTING BTM = ORGY OF NOISE

BTM SHOOTING KEVIN @ Bunny Brunch

First up, a farewell send off party for KEVIN PELRINE at 3 Wave Jump (headquarters for DREAMHOUSE band.) Kevin has played in many of my fave local bands (Ergot Rot, Night Moves, Dreamhouse) and has shot a ton video for several of my Orgy Of Noise live shows. He is heading off to NYC to go grad school. Bon voyage and congrats and a huge THANK YOU to KEVIN. Great funtime party with some of the coolest cats around.

KEVIN with DREAMHOUSE at WHRB RECORD HOSPITAL GIG.

NEXT UP

I blasted to other side of Allston to the BUTCHER SHOPPE basement to see/hear BONE RATTLE and EATS TAPES...

= NON-STOP FUN = Triple Play Gemini Friday Adventures... AND AND AND !

see pix & video of BTM in HEADROOM here !

* Since the Orgy Of Noise at Multimedia Circus gig in Spring 2009, I have been in a semi-reclusive STUDIO zone, mostly editing video, mixing audio and tweaking other assorted projects chronicled here in this blog. Got quite distracted working on this BTM soundtrack/film dream vision excursion which is still in progress... I have piles of audio, video, photos from various projects (tracks from as far back as 1976) stashed in my vaults and not enough time or money to sort them out.

.... AND did the four advance screenings of the ORGY OF NOISE - Tricks & Treats DVD around HALLOWEEN 2009. They were deluxe cast and crew and audience events (that included jam outs after the screenings) here at Headroom for the DVD's limited preview release. Look for that DVD to be fully released "WIDE" (as they say in biz jargon) around Halloween 2010.

see ORGY OF NOISE pix & video here !

So anyway, over the last year or so, except for a couple Mission Of Burma gigs and a Robyn Hitchcock (solo) Jonathan Demme (workshop) Neil Young (concert film debut) at the Coolidge and a trip to the MIT FLEA I haven't been out of the studio that much.

AND yeah, so JUNE.... this past FRIDAY (June 4th) all of a sudden there FOUR different happenings in one night. All by people who I am friends/collaborators/fans of and that I am very loyal to. They have shown their loyalty to me by being for me as well. Too much to choose from... Karen Langlie (Wisteriax) was playing her CELLO way up in Lowell and Jason (of Neptune) having a birthday party in Cambridge, guitarist Cathy Capozzi (Axemunkee) playing her own birthday bash show (also in Cambridge) and Deftly-D and crew were putting on a multimedia show called ORDNANCE in Everett. So with a bit of planning it timed out that I could catch 3 of the 4 by doing an hour or two at each. Crazy, but doable.

see NEPTUNE pix & video here !

JASON SANFORD, the mastermind of the band NEPTUNE turned the big 4-O on June 4th. The backyard BBQ was great fun. I knew I was at the right spot when I saw the front yard of house had a heap of bicycles. Neptune is tip top of my list of my favorite experimental rock bands of all time. I first saw them back in 1998 when my Orgy Of Noise & Kings Of Feedback bands appeared the UNDERBELLY CD and they played the CD compilation release show. Somewhat recently Neptune member Dan Boucher moved away to Arizona and they had to get TWO people to replace his awesomeness. They actually grabbed their longtime engineer/co-producer Kevin Micka and the band's close pal Farhad Ebrahimi, who were already part of the Neptune family. They all have been building new instruments and electronics and getting ready for their return show debut of the new line-up at Great Scott club here in Allston this August. Since seeing them in 1998, I have shot tons of photos/videos of NEPTUNE and at some point I MIGHT even do a BTM REMIX of NEPTUNE... if they ever get me the master audio trax.

Hung out for the first part of Jason's birthday party (from 7:30pm - 9:45pm - but didn't snap any photos) and then off to AXEMUNKEE who were playing a nearby club...

Cathy Capozzi's birthday was actually June 3rd and this was officially a DUAL GEMINI BIRTHDAY BASH since a member of the other band was also having a b-day. If you have been following my adventures, you know that I have remixed and did live & studio guest electro tennis racquet gtr bits with Axemunkee (and remixes for her earlier band AQM)... AND Axemunkee members have joined in with my ORGY OF NOISE as well, most notably at the MULTIMEDIA CIRCUS show which just happened to be produced by Deftly-D, so there's a ton of crossover between us all.

check out...

Bounced in and out just for Axemunkee's set (from 10:15pm -11.15pm) and the headed out to ORDNANCE III gig, which was at a new spot in Everett. Bit of zig-zaging and made it there just before midnight to catch the finale sets and hang with the crew.

DJ Deftly-D was the host and he (and a lot of his crew) have been involved in several ORGY OF NOISE gig/sessions, most notably the TRICKS & TREATS TTs show and Voidstar Productions's Mulitmedia Circus. ORDNANCE is DJs, VJs, Drummers and more. DEFTLY-D RULES.

see more ORDNANCE photos !

SO just like clockwork, somehow managed to experience ALL THREE HAPPENINGS and SURVIVE.

* AND AND AND... now on JUNE 8th Robyn Hitchcock is returning to the Coolidge Theatre for a full solo set.

*UPDATE: Back from the ROBYN show... he spilled his gray matter with his usual eccentric charm and wit whilst plucking away masterfully on his strings of steel resnonating over wood. At first glance his lyrical riddles appear to be delusional stream of sub-conscious babble, but somehow I was able to connect the dots and find the punch line and the melodies. Bravo.

Later this week, I am thinking of making it out to the MIT FLEA on JUNE 20th and then definitely going to RINGO IN CONCERT on JUNE 29th.... but for me and my normal pace, I am actually still taking it a bit slow on outside of the studio fun for the month of JUNE, relatively speaking anyway.
