...all of the plans for this short film are in an embryonic flux of fragments of non-plot via a mental storyboard being decrypted here at the laboratory that seems give way to an abstract visual smorgasbord of close-ups of assorted vibrations melting into the vortex via ear drum stimulations.

BTM Guest Squelching with the Laundry Room Squelchers & Rat Bastard @ International Noise Conference 2010 @ MIT on April 22nd.

RAT BASTARD on Squelch Strat

The one and only Rat Bastard of Laundry Room Squelchers (from Florida) tours from town to town with different local people curating each of the shows. Rat takes an entourage of hot noise babes and one or two acts with him for the tour and plays last after an almost non-stop barrage of a dozen or so local artists.

Killer line-up. Each act did sets of 15 minutes or less. The tongue in cheek rule is... NO DRONING! NO LAPTOPS! NO MIXERS!

I played the INC 2008 Boston/Cambridge show and was invited to play an Orgy Of Noise set at INC 2010 by curator Nathan Trites, but since I am still in studio hermit mode I decided not to play this one. My plan was to just go to the show as spectator fan. I didn't even bring any of my cameras since the post production of shooting pics eats up so much time.

Bill T Miller on RADIO SQUELCH AMP

When I arrived RAT immediately asks me if I was playing under another name, since he didn't see Orgy Of Noise on the line-up. Once I told him I wasn't on the bill he insists "Well then, YOU'RE PLAYING with THE SQUELCHERS, we are down one man anyway." So he shows me one of three Peavey guitar amps that had been modified to have an AM/FM RADIO jacked in for uber SQUELCH all on wheels and long extension cords for a roller derby, bumper car, mosh pit, quad, freak-out sorta effect, while Rat wails away on his strat.

FUN at MIT FLEA Swap Meet - 04.18.10

cool rainy day at the flea = all sellers in the parking garage !

I wanted THIS BOX of KNOBS for my ZONKULATOR RIG
...but $250.00 = no dice.

ACTUALLY BROKE DOWN an BOUGHT TWO THINGS in HARD COLD CASH... Walter Carlos - Switched on Bach LP in fair condition = .50 cent. My Dad turned me on to this album when it came out in 1969, igniting my lust for MOOG SYNTHS. Shortly after that he brought home a SINE WAVE GENERATOR OSCILLATOR from his chemistry lab for me to tweak.

+ VGA to VGA cable = $1 - just what I needed for free dual input CRT computer monitor I just scored for FREE on Craigslist. Oh wait, it cost four bux (with dollar off flyer)to get in, so total cash spent = $5.50... and well worth it.

I ran into a ton of people at the FLEA including Jessica Rylan & Nathan Trites (flower electronics wizards) - Monte McGuire (soundman to the stars) - Larry Dersch (best drummer and dude around) - Fred Owsley (from Noise Night bending workshops) - Mike and Linda Bullock (master improvers) - Max Lord (buchla synth & percussion ninja) - Andy Ihnatko (photographer who shoots amazing mit flea pix) and met a dude who saw me and Orgy Of Noise at Multimedia Circus gig in 2009... plus nodded at Zerfalt & Asha and even caught a glimpse Adam Rosen (my fave Mac Guru of Vintage Mac Museum.) If you dig around my BTM PHOTOGRAPHY SITE you will find pix I have snapped over the years of most of these people.

Hope to make it to the next FLEA in MAY... might even grab a table and bring a pile of stuff to the party.

Tour of Headroom Recording Studios (2003)

CLICK to SEE SAME VIDEO LARGER on YOUTUBE

Home to BTM's bands OBE, KINGS OF FEEDBACK, DRUM ARMY, KING OF SLACK, SLACKBANGERS, ORGY OF NOISE and tons of OTHER bands produced by Bill T Miller. BTM's semi-private project studio has opened it's doors at various locations to record and/or remix many bands, including: Melt-Banana, Axemunkee, Grief, Disrupt, Dropdead, Noosebomb, Glenn Jones, One Of Us, Roger Miller's no man, Xyxyl, The Slaves, Prime Movers, Bentmen, Powerman 5000, Saturnalia, Plainfield, All The Queen's Men, Rich Gilbert, Reeves Gabrels, Malcolm Travis, Reg Bloor, Deftly-D, Ajda the Turkish Queen,Reverend Ivan Stang - Subgenius, Wisteriax, Twink, and many more.

Headroom in the 80s-90s was based around an analog Fostex E-16 tape recorder & a Ramsa 20 input console. By the late 90s switched over to a Pro Tools rig on a Macintosh computer. Although BTM continued to freelance out of many other larger studios with 24 track 2-inch or 16 track - 1-inch machines and huge consoles and tracking rooms stocked with various microphones. Headroom was always designed to be BTM's playground and the gear is a hodge podge of McGuvered together bits to create an unique real. Co-producer TIPPI CAT is even spotted in the Headroom Tour video. This video was shot in 2003, so the set-up has morphed a bit. Still centered around Digidesign Pro Tools for audio and Final Cut Pro for video and stuffed with piles of toys and hand built outsider BTM instruments. This version of the studio is still located in the same space in ALLSTON ROCK CITY - Boston - usa.

I am thinking I should follow Nigel of Spinal Tap's lead for my next "career" choice.... "A salesman, like maybe in a, uh, haberdasher, or maybe like a, uh, um... a chapeau shop or something. You know, like, "Would you... what size do you wear, sir?" And then you answer me." --- Actually, that is kinda what is happening, since I am about to auction off many of my collectibles on EBAY soon.

Mount Beatlemore

This is a self-portrait snapshot from a Piano Factory gallery show in Boston's South End. I am not actually IN the small room behind the glass doors... I am outside looking in. It is hard to tell, but if you look close there a painting (artist unknown - otherwise i would credit) of the FAB FOUR as MOUNT RUSHMORE. When I passed by the glass to look in the room i noticed my head's perspective became part of the sculpture. Sorta.

JIMI HENDRIX - MY GUITAR HERO

Between ROCK BAND and GUITAR HERO games you can play "Fire" & "The Wind Cries Mary" & "If 6 was 9” & “Little Wing" on yer plastic controllers. Plus, GH has a Jimi animated character choice for our lefty southpaw guitar god. I wonder if they (Guitar Hero or Rock Band) will ever get the Hendrix foundation to license a full game with a Jimi strat controller, like The Beatles Rock Band?

In the meantime, a slew of Hendrix is due out in 2010 in a relaunch of the catalog, including Valleys of Neptune album and companion DVDs.... jimi-hendrix.com

I saw JIMI open for the THE MONKEES in North Carolina on July 11, 1967... his first album had been released in UK, but didn't come out in the states until August '67. So, the only song I recognized was his Troggs cover of Wild Thing which Jimi heaved a pile of FAIRY DUST onto and blew my eleven year old mind. Then I scored the first album and recorded it to my Dad's Tandberg reel-to-reel recorder and accidentally threaded it backwards and that activated a few more of my brain cells into overdrive. I had advanced from playing tennis racquet guitar and scored an acoustic silvertone guitar and shortly after that scored my electric Silvertone BobCat Guitar and formed THE ELECTRIC ONION band and we played/butchered FOXY LADY and PURPLE HAZE to the point where to this day except for a bit of homage jamming, I don't really attempt to cover any Jimi songs out of respect for the originals.

Digital Art Blur Glitch Photo Meltdown by BTM

MISSION OF BURMA at THE PARADISE in BOSTON

Going to see Mission Of Burma play down the street from my studio this Friday/Saturday (January 15 & 16, 2010) at The Paradise Club in Boston. Gonna try NOT to take a CAMERA and just listen and watch for a change. I have tons of MOB (and Roger Miller solo) shots online already and even more photos/video that I will prob never have the time to sort through. There will be a entourage of hot shot paparazzi shooters down front, so both show will be covered with or without me.

Here's a couple shots I snapped of MOB when they played The Paradise Summer 2008...

SEE MORE BTM PHOTOS of BURMA.
....plus info on a couple of Roger Miller solo albums
that I engineered/co-produced at Headroom years ago.

UPDATE: THE KONKS played a killer opening set on Friday. Konks just released a cool circuit board cover with working theremin for their new 7 -inch record. Konks drummer/vocalist KURT DAVIS was lead singer (as Yukki Gipe) for Bullet LaVolta and played drums in the band Kustomized with Peter Prescott (MOB drummer) on vocals. Peter and Kurt also worked together at various Boston-area record stores over the years.
